Despite playing exceedingly well in the second half, Real Madrid could manage to score only one goal and had to settle with one point against Atheltic Bilbao in La Liga. The side’s manager, Julen Lopetegui feels his side should have gone home with all three points and a draw for Real Madrid is never good. Lopetegui said in the post-match presentation,
“A draw for Real Madrid is never good. We came for three points, and we didn’t get them.”
Loptegui is disappointed not to get the three points at Bilbao.
In the first half, Bilbao’s, Iker Muniain took the lead and made Los Blancos suffer. After coming in as a substitute, Isco equalised with a header after a brilliant assist from Gareth Bale.
However, Lopetegui’s men kept fighting to find in the second half but failed to find the net after missing a lot of opportunities.
When the manager was asked if he had lost his faith in Isco, he said nothing has changed about how he sees the creative midfielder?
“I don’t see a drop in his standard. I have plenty of confidence in Isco. And the rest of the squad, that has not changed.”
Julen Lopetegui also revealed after suffering in the first half; Real tried to find a solution and fix that in the second half.
“We were too hurried, in the second half we corrected that. We were more calm, we were more in control and we had better chances. In the first half, we entered into their dynamic. But in the second half we were better and we could have scored more than one goal. In the second half, we were much better.”
Real Madrid will face Espanyol next in their league game before they face Roma in Champions League on Wednesday.
