AIFF forms committee with an aim to merge I League and ISL

The All India Football Federation has finally taken a step as a part of its initiative to merge the I-League and IMGR owned Indian Super League. On Friday, both the AIFF top brass and two top officials from IMGR along with the I-league club representatives had a detailed discussion at a hotel in Mumbai. The main agenda was the discussion on the merger. According to the contract between IMGR and All India Football Federation (AIFF), there cannot be any amalgamation of these two tournaments for the first three years after the start of ISL. Keeping in mind about the agreement, AIFF president Praful Patel has made a special committee which will analyze and set the next course of actions to make the union of the two leagues possible. It has been learned that IMGR which has been the marketing agent of I-League had to listen to several types of complaints from I-league club representatives in the meeting. IMGR which had earlier given nearly Rs 35 crores to the AIFF as the sponsorship money has recently increased the amount for Rs 3 crores. Still, I-League club representatives wanted clarifications from the sponsor that why they were being deprived of the share of the amount, earned from television rights.

However, despite the fact, Pune FC and Bharat FC have decided to pull out of the forthcoming I-League, the AIFF top brass did not raise any point surprisingly. An official from Pune FC said on condition of anonymity, “We expected AIFF president would listen to our difficulties and the reasons behind our decisions to withdraw from the I-League. Even, the Federation bosses did not feel to discuss reasons about the shortcomings of the I-League where people are not coming to watch matches. They only set the focus of amalgamation of the I league and ISL.”
