The All India Football Federation top brass is extremely peeved at India’s senior national football team’s miserable show in the recently concluded World Cup qualifiers where Indian seniors conceded losses in all their five group league matches. And as its reflection, the AIFF to brass has already started thinking of removing Stephen Constantine!
The AIFF secretary Kushal Das, speaking on the occasion on Wednesday, said, “Stephen had national preparatory camp for one month for the whole September. What did he do? No reflection of his training was notice d in Indian seniors’ performance in any of the matches in World Cup qualifiers. We will have to sit with our technical committee chairman Bhaichung Bhutia immediately and review Stephen’s performance.”
Surprisingly, the AIFF secretary denied to admit that the performance of the national team, precisely the senior national team is being affected due to ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) as Indian seniors could not have any national preparatory camp before their last two qualifiers against Turkmenistan and Oman.
The secretary rather excused saying, “The performance would not have changed with the national preparatory camp before India’s matches against Turkmenistan and Oman. The reality is that there has been a huge vacuum of quality players. And simultaneously, it has been the failure of national coach who could not maneuver his footballers to the direction where the players could deliver their best.”
In another surprising incident, most of the Indian footballers, after their defeat at the hands of Oman, had to rush in to the airport to return to India with the purpose to join their respective franchise club teams!
Even, the footballers could not attend the post-mortem discussion, initiated by chief national coach Stephen Constantine at the dinner table on Tuesday night.
