Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made his choice clear between two of the greatest managers who are bracing the dugout, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp. The debate of whom among Pep and Klopp is best, is slowly turning into the one as similar to the GOAT debate between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Aubameyang switched sides mid-season, as he joined the Catalans in January this year on a free transfer. His former side Arsenal terminated his contract after he reportedly breached a number of disciplinary rules at the club. Aubameyang was quickly snapped by Barcelona, who also reaped the rewards as he went on to score 13 goals in just 23 appearances for them.  The 33-year-old striker has now joined the debate of Pep vs Klopp.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang chooses his former boss

While in an interview with ESPNFC, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was quizzed with some questions in a ‘rapid-fire’ round. The Gabonese was asked to pick between Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, to which he quickly snapped back “Klopp”.

Given Aubameyang has already played under Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, it was justified why he snubbed the former Barca coach. Klopp and Aubameyang worked together at Dortmund from 2013 to 2015. The forward scored an impressive 43 goals and collected 16 assists in 93 games under the German. They both also lifted the German Super Cup twice during their partnership at the club.

While Klopp left for Liverpool in 2015, bring an emotional end to his tenure at BVB, Aubameyang later signed for Arsenal in the winter market of 2018. There he enjoyed a successful four-year spell, netting 92 goals in 163 games, winning the FA Cup as well as a Community Shield.

He was also coached by Guardiola’s former assistant Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, with whom he found himself at crossroads. As a result, Aubameyang was once again on the move in the winter market as he left for Barcelona in January this year. However, after just over six months at the Camp Nou the striker could make a return to England, with Chelsea.

One of his former bosses, Thomas Tuchel wants him at his current side Chelsea as he has asked the new owner Todd Boehly to get the deal over the line. Moreover, Barcelona too are ready to facilitate his exit as they have already acquired Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha from the summer market.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is now waiting for the Blues to finalize a deal with the Catalans who reportedly want €30 million for their January recruit. The striker hopes his future is sorted before the deadline day as he is open to a return to London with Chelsea.
