Former Chelsea manager says his dismissal by Real Madrid WAS NOT RIGHT
London, Nov 13 (IANS) Former Real Madrid manager Italian Carlo Ancelotti has said the Spanish side’s decision to dismiss him “was not right”. “To be sacked is part of your job.
But if you ask me about being sacked by Real Madrid, I tell you that it was not right,” Ancelotti said in an interview with British newspaper Daily Mail on Thursday, reports Efe.
He was sacked at the end of last season after two years in charge. The Italian was fired after only winning the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in his second year.
“I was really, really unhappy because I had a fantastic relationship with the players. I really enjoyed training this team. They were really serious, really professional,” Ancelotti explained.
Ancelotti added that he was going to have his contract terminated with Madrid after the first season in case he failed to win the much-coveted 10th Champions League title. “If the manager doesn’t win at Madrid he is sacked. Had I not won the ‘Decima’ I would have been sacked a year earlier but I knew this when I took the job. I could have decided not to sign but Real Madrid is the most important club in the world,” Ancelotti explained.
He also noted that in Real Madrid “you are judged on the results, but you cannot win every single year. Certainly not in Spain, where you have one of the best teams in the world in FC Barcelona. You have a third team, in Atletico, that is also very competitive.”
