Angel di Maria can help PSG: Zidane

Former Real Madrid player Zinedine Zidane believes that Angel di Maria is the type of player that PSG need of they want to challenge for Champions League amid transfer speculation.

The 27-year old di Maria is expected to join PSG after only one season at Old Trafford and the deal is worth around €63 million (£44.8m). The Argentine has struggled during mid season despite a good start to his season at Old Trafford.

Di Maria was a long standing target of PSG after having missed out on him to Manchester United only due to FFP regulations. The Qatari owners of the club are keen to build a European heavy weight which could match with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Having dominated the league in the recent years, the French giants were a mile away from Europe’s elite clubs and they want to fill in the gap by bringing in world class players who could make a difference.

Manchester United have made key additions to their weak zones this summer as they signed the likes of Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Depay and Darmain to make a strong squad going into the new season.

The 43-year old Zidane believes that the signing of di Maria could help PSG push beyond quarter-finals in Champions League next season. He said,”He’s the kind of player that can take you to the next stage. That’s what they need to go further in the Champions League.

“Angel Di Maria can contribute his energy, the difference he makes when he accelerates, he has the quality to do something. I think that it will happen in the coming days.”

Di Maria’s agent Jorge Mendes is reportedly in French capital to discuss terms with PSG’s president Nasser Al Khelaifi over the player’s contract, which is expected to be four or five years long.
