Argentine international and former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria left the club this summer to join Ligue 1 champions PSG this summer. United sold the winger for a huge sum of £44.3 million.

Angel Di Maria had joined the Premier League giants last summer from Real Madrid for a British transfer record fee of £59.7 million. The Argentine international had a terrible debut season at United where he remained out of action for the first of the season due to injuries and then was benched by Louis van Gaal due to poor performances. Di Maria himself wanted to move out of the club this summer and was heavily linked with Paris club.

Now as the transfer window is over Di Maria has finally revealed the exact reason why he left United just after one season.

Speaking ESPN Radio, Di Maria said: “Van Gaal has his philosophy and one of the reasons I wanted to go to Manchester United is because of that factor.

“However, it was difficult to adapt to Van Gaal’s workings. I had a couple of run-ins with him.

“It started well for me, but then I got injured. When I came back, Van Gaal changed my position. When I spoke to PSG coach Laurent Blanc he said he’d play me in the position I had for Real Madrid.”

Manchester United have done great business in this summer transfer window. They had brought in quite a few big names and have also successfully retained the services of David De Gea on the transfer deadline day.

Manchester United are in the fifth position at present in the league table. They started their campaign on a high but their peroformance has not been impressive so far.

It will be interesting to see how a new looked Manchester United under Louis van Gaal will perform in this season.
