United fans are yet to overcome the massive disappointment of a then exciting young prospect and now one of the best in his positions, Paul Pogba, moving on a free to Juventus. In this situation, the Red Devils faithful may be dealt with a similar blow as another exciting young prospect Andreas Pereira could follow the footsteps of Paul Pogba by leaving Manchester United for the Turin outfit on a free transfer in the summer.
From the moment Pogba stepped in for the youth team, everyone were aware of his abilities. But, for some reason United’s legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson did not give him the necessary opportunity to play. Hence, he left for free to join the Italian champions.
If he had stayed, the French midfielder would have filled a major hole in the middle of the park. But, due to his departure, United are looking elsewhere to fill that role. So much so that United are now prepared to offer a huge amount to buy back the French midfielder from Italy in the summer.
Meanwhile, recent reports of Pereira leaving the Red Devils for Juve would have ignited few nerves among United supporters. They would have been even more terrified now, as Pereira himself confirmed about the possibility of it happening.
The Belgium-born winger confirmed that his close friend Pogba has already recommended him about joining him at Turin. “Paul tells me Turin is perfect for me,” said Pereira, according to Italy’s Tuttosport.
“Everybody knows that Juve are a great club. I’ve spoken with Pogba plenty of times because we’re friends. But right now, I’m contracted to Manchester United. My agent is assessing the offers which have arrived, including from Juventus, but this is no secret. I’ve not made up my mind yet, I’m just considering my offers,” he said.
The 19-year-old is out of contract in June and due to the limited opportunity he has been provided so far this season under Van Gaal, he may be tempted to leave the club for free once his contract expires.
Juve have gained a reputation for spotting and signing talent from Europe’s top clubs on free transfers, having also taken Kingsley Coman under contract from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. They are nurturing the youngsters by giving them with plenty of opportunities. So joining the Italian champions and achieving the heights Pogba has managed, may tempt the Belgium in making the move.
Van Gaal has given a lot of chances for young defenders this season like Tyler Blackett and Paddy Mcnair, but has failed to give him with meaningful chances despite his great performances in the youth team. If the Dutchman is to prevent another Pogba situation, he has go to play the Belgian more and pen him down with an improved contract.
