Antonio Conte explains why this Chelsea star is still missing!!
The 29-year-old midfielder has only made six appearances for Chelsea this term and, as a result of his lack of game-time has been consistently linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in January.
Conte revealed that Fabregas had picked up a small muscular injury ahead of their 4-0 victory over Manchester United at the weekend.
And the Blues boss has confirmed that the midfielder remains on the sidelines in the lead-up to their match at Upton Park on Wednesday evening.
“He’s not still well. We must wait, he had a muscular problem and we are waiting,” Conte said.
“We must be patient because the muscular problem was tight.
“But I hope to see him soon with the team in the training session.”
However, according to the latest report from the Sun, Fabregas could be handed an escape route from his Chelsea nightmare by former boss Pep Guardiola, whose Manchester City are interested in making a £20 million move.
Fabregas is not seen as a part of Antonio Conte’s plans moving forward, with the Italian manager preferring a midfield combination of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante.
City will top the former Gunner’s current £160,000-per-week wages and offer a future move to sister club New York City FC in Major League Soccer to finish his career, reports suggest.
Meanwhile, Chelsea captain John Terry is fit to return to the side for the EFL Cup fourth round fixture against West Ham today.
The veteran centre-back has won the trophy with the Blues on three separate occasions and will play his first competitive game since September 11.
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has vowed to play a ‘strong team’ but remains without striker Andre Ayew, who is back in training following a thigh injury sustained on the opening day of the season against Chelsea.
That match saw the Blues win 2-1 thanks to Eden Hazard and a late Diego Costa strike, but the two sides have not met in this competition since 2004 when Meteja Kezman scored the only goal for Chelsea.
Blues head coach Antonio Conte is likely to rotate his options, with the likes of midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah also in contention to start.
Defenders Branislav Ivanovic and Kurt Zouma have returned to training, but it is too soon for them to play.
Both previous League Cup meetings between these sides ended 1-0 to the home team – West Ham winning in October 1994, with Chelsea triumphing in October 2004.
Chelsea lost on their last visit to face West Ham in all competitions (1-2 in October 2015). This will be their first visit to the London Stadium.
