Antonio Conte still wants to add to his squad, eyes star Juventus defender on free transfer 1

The summer transfer window is officially done and dusted but that does not let teams from Europe breathe a sigh of relief.

Clubs from around the continent will now be looking at players who they can sign even after deadline day, players who are now without a contract with any club.

Free agents, as they are called, can be signed even after deadline day, and Premier League outfit Chelsea are plotting a move for a star European defender.

Uruguay international Martin Caceres played his last competitive game back in last February and has ever since been nursing an injury to try and get back to full fitness.

He is a center back by trait but is more than capable of deputizing at the full back positions if needed and Conte feels that he is a good option to add to the Stamford Bridge outfit this summer.

The 29-year old, when in his prime, was an able deputy for Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini in Turin but has now been let go from Italy leaving him without a contract or a club for the next season.

And it is understood that Conte is one of many managers who have their eyes on him.

The 29-year old is an experienced campaigner and is also on the radar of Inter Milan and AS Roma but it is understood that his time under Antonio Conte at Juventus may be able to bring him to England in the next few days.

However having played no professional football for some time now, Caceres will have to prove his fitness to pass a medical test even before signing a contract with any club in Europe.

At Chelsea, the likes of Gary Cahill, John Terry and the deadline day buy David Luiz are the only three senior center backs at the club while Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic will be competing with Marcus Alonso another late buy in the transfer window for the flanks.

It will be interesting to see if Conte decides on gambling with a move for Caceres and if he does, the 29-year old can turn out to be an excellent addition to the squad.

Do you think Chelsea should sign Caceres this summer?
