Find the best and worst rated players from Arsenal vs Manchester City
Arsene Wenger’s side took full advantage of the Monday night game against fellow title contenders Manchester City when they pulled out a 2-1 victory to open up a 4 point gap at the top of the table between the two clubs. Olivier Giroud was once again on the score sheet after Walcott put them ahead in the 33rd minute of the game.
Yaya Toure pulled one back in the 82nd minute, but the Gunners held on to their lead to move within two points off top placed Leicester City. Here are the player ratings for this game:
P Cech (3):
Should have done better to stop Toure’s late goal but was comfortable with everything else thrown at him.
N Monreal (3):
A constant presence in the final third, Monreal was found wanting when City pushed on for a late winner.
Provided the width to drag the City defenders wide and was also solid at the back.
P Mertesacker (3):
Was not really tested by the City forward line as he was comfortable in front of the goal.
L Koscielny (3.5):
Was superb in defense as he broke up plenty of attacks and never gave Aguero the space to create anything.
M Ozil (3.5):
Ozil just can’t stop assisting at the moment as he provided both the balls that led to goals for his team. He is simply at his best at the moment.
M Flamini (3):
Stuck to his task well as he put his body across the line whenever needed and provided good cover for his back four.
A Ramsey (2.5):
Not his best game as he often lacked the end product but was assured in the mid-field area.
J Campbell (2.5):
Could not create enough chances and had one shot stopped by an athletic Hart at the near post.
T Walcott (3.5):
Put the defenders under constant pressure with his pace and trickery and also opened the scoring with a superb curler into the corner.
O Giroud (3):
Did a great job of holding the ball up in the final third and was assured in his finish to pick up a goal in his 5th consecutive appearance for the club.
C Chambers (2.5)
K Gibbs (2.5)
A Oxlade-Chamberlain (2.5)
J Hart (2.5):
Made some important saves to deny the home team a huge lead but should have done better to stop Giroud from scoring.
B Sagna (2.5):
Had a torrid time on the flank as he was beaten far too often for this team’s liking. Picked up the assist for Toure’s goal.
A Kolarov (2):
A forgettable game for the full back as he was hardly available for his team at either end of the field.
N Otamendi (2.5):
Was tested with the pace and trickery of Arsenal’s front line but made some crucial interceptions that kept his team in the game.
E Mangala (2.5):
Looked shaky at the back as he was often under pressure by the home team.
F Delph (2):
The game passed by him far too often as he was nothing but a mere passenger in the middle.
The Brazilian was easily beaten on several occasions as he failed to provide enough cover for his back four.
K de Bruyne (3):
Missed a glorious one on one opportunity to put City back in the game but was one of the brightest players up front for the visitors.
Y Toure (2.5):
Scored one of the goals of the season with a superb lift over the keeper but was anonymous for most of the game.
D Silva (2.5):
City needed a lot more from their creative player who failed to dominate the midfield area and was not at his best.
S Aguero (2.5):
Not the best return from injury for the Argentine as he was closely marked and given no space by Koscielny.
J Navas (2)
R Sterling (2.5)
W Bony (2.5)
