Manolas forcing his move after training ground bust-up

Roma president James Pallotta has warned Chelsea and Arsenal that defender Kostas Manolas is not for sale, at least for the time being.

The Greek centre-back has been reportedly attracting the attentions of Chelsea and Arsenal with rumours increasingly growing after his agent confirmed his client would not be signing a new contract.

However, latest reports are saying Manolas had a training ground bust-up with teammate Kevin Strootman.

According to Gazzetta World, the 25-year-old was angry after being dressed down by the midfielder – who thought he wasn’t putting in enough effort during the session.

This could be good for the interested Premier League clubs, with the Greece international’s unhappiness potentially forcing a move.

If he does push for a transfer, then it could mean bad news for Roma – as half of any fee has to go to his former club Lupi.

Manolas’ contract with the Italian club runs til 2019 and is believed to be valued around the £38million mark by Roma.

While asked if he expected Manolas to depart Roma this summer, Pallotta dismissed the possibility straight away.

“Why on earth should Manolas leave? Juan Jesus and Nacho are two experienced defenders who are going to help us,” said Pallotta.

“The team is working very hard for the Champions League play-off stage.”

The 25-year-old defender joined Roma from Olympiacos two years ago and has made 86 appearances for the Serie A club so far.

Manolas reportedly had to choose between the Emirates and Italy in 2014 with Arsenal maintaining their persistent interest in the defender.

Chelsea are also eager to add a top class centre-back to their ranks this summer.
