Arsenal are all set to raid both Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund for two promising defenders Jason Denayer and Matthias Ginter.
Denayer, the 21-year-old centre-back right now on the books of Manchester City, last season flourished on a loan spell at Turkish giants Galatasaray and even made it to Belgium’s Euro 2016 squad.
A reliable Man City source told The Sun: “Denayer signed a new contract last summer. He is rated at about £15m at the club and is on around £25,000-a-week.
“Arsenal have been interested before just over a year ago but only bid £5m. There was no follow-up offer at the time, but Wenger is a fan.”
Denayer, who started for Belgium in the Euro 2016 defeat to Wales, was at the receiving end of Hal Robson-Kanu’s famous Cruyff turn in the knockout stage.
Standing at 6ft 2in, his height gives him an advantage of being dominant and strong in the air. Denayer’s aerial ability is his biggest strength and is his most impressive attribute. His athleticism and tremendous work rate is also quite impressive when compared to other players his age.
Denayer has often been compared to his club and international teammate, Vincent Kompany, and with good reason too. Both being strong and able to make last ditch minute tackles, as well as being very physical in their challenges.
Not only Belgium international Denayer; the same Sun report claims Arsene Wenger is also eyeing 22-year-old Germany international Matthias Ginter to make his defensive line bulletproof for the upcoming season.
Ginter, who caught the eye of the Arsenal manager during a scouting mission to his first club Freiburg, has so far played 9 matches for Joachim Lowe’s German side since his debut in 2014.
Ginter signed a five-year deal with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund as part of a £8.5m transfer two seasons ago and was even included in the 2014 World Cup squad as a reward for his impressive form.
