It could be a major setback for Arsenal as their Columbian goalkeeper David Ospina is considering a move in the next transfer window that is in January. Although his long-term future in Emirates definitely has question marks after the champions league defeat against Olympiacos. The Columbian was in the line of fire after his mistakes gave a chance the Greek club to come back into the game. Arsen Wenger’s decision to overlook Peter Cech for the must-win game also raised many questions.
Reports saying, Chech is likely to feature in the first team against Bayern Munich also he is the first choice goalkeeper in the premier league matches. That means Ospina haven’t got many options, he will feature only in domestic competitions. Certainly not good news for a player of his calibre. Few European clubs Besiktas, Getafe, Genoa and Palermo are although want to try their luck on Ospina. If a permanent agreement cannot be reached with Arsenal, at least they are willing to take him on loan.
But good news for the Columbian goalkeeper, he is likely to be given an opportunity ahead of Peter Chech in the Capital One Cup fourth round match against Sheffield. But this home fixture cannot be a consolation and might force Ospina to reconsider his future and make a move out of Anfield in the January transfer window. The problem for Wenger is that they have already sent Wojciech Szczesny on loan at Roma, so he will have to look for a back-up if Ospina decides to move ahead and try his luck in another club.
Peter Chech is definitely now Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeper as he already have proved Wenger’s decision to hijack him from Chelsea a superhit one by producing another extraordinary performance against Manchester United. The Chech Republic international made an outstanding save just before the half-time to preserve Arsenal’s 3 goal lead. A goal in that crucial time could have changed the momentum of the match and gave a chance to United for bouncing back, but Chech’s save averted that. The win took Arsenal to the second spot in the league table, overtaking Manchester United on goal difference and just two points behind the leaders Manchester City.
