According to latest reports from TalkSport, Arsenal are clear favorites to sign Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli after AC Milan failed to complete the deal.
The 20-year old, it was thought, completed his move to AC Milan after the club made a massive £20million bid for the talented youngster. The player was expected to rekindle his relationship with new manager Sinisa Mihajlovic whom he worked with on loan at Sampdoria last season.
The Gunners were monitoring the progress of the young Italian for the last 12 months and are keen to sign him. The 20-year old’s future at Roma looks uncertain going into the new season but a move to Arsenal would give him a new challenge.
Arsene Wenger is looking to add a new centre back going into new season and Romagnoli would be an ideal signing as he is a tough tackler and a young talent. With just 20 years old he could be a long term replacement for aging Per Mertesacker if he opts to sign for Gunners.
Arsenal are ready to activate his buy-out clause which is believed to be around £25 million as Roma rates him very highly as he is brought up through their academy.
Romangnoli have made 30 appearences for Sampdoria in Serie A last season as they managed a Europa League spot but the Italian U-21 international is looking for a bigger club as he wants to leave Roma this summer.
