Spanish newspaper Marca has came up with a surprise story. They claim that Arsenal have launched a £4.3 million bid for Olympiacos goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez Gago.
The 29 year old Spanish goalkeeper plays for Greek giants Olympiacos.
The news will surprise most football fans as Arsenal already have two world class goalkeepers in their squad in the form of Petr Cech and David Ospina.
Wojciech Szczęsny and Emiliano Martínez also became surplus to the needs of Arsene Wenger and are loaned out.
Under the circumstances, they are looking for a third goalkeeper and the price is not also small.
Jimenez came out from the youth academy but could not make it to the first team for five times. He played for the club’s B team mostly.
Then he had spells with Real Zaragoza and Benfica before moving to Greece.
The goalkeeper had 19 caps for different youth set ups in Spain.
He won UEFA Europa League with Atletico Madrid in 2009-10, one Taca da Liga and one Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira with Benfica, two Superleague Greece titles and one Greek Football Cup with Olympiacos.
So far, the only Arsenal summer signing has been Petr Cech. The fans desparately want a striker and a defensive midfielder and will not welcome the news of bidding for another goalkeeper.
