We all know how many times the Gooners have come across the banter: “Injuries and Arsenal – still a better love story than Twilight” !! Yes, when everything looked to be perfectly okay, with Arsenal winning their opening Premier League fixture against Liverpool till the half-time whistle. But during the second half, Aaron Ramsey started to feel his hamstring and was subbed off. After Ramsey’s injury, the injured player’s count has raised to 9!
The good news is Laurent Koscielny, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil – who didn’t feature in the fixture against the Reds at the Emirates are expected to start against defending champions Leicester city this week.
Here are the 8 injured players and their probable return dates:
Danny Welbeck
It has been 100 days since Welbeck suffered a Knee injury which combines ACL and MCL ruptures. The England international has missed 25 games for Arsenal since 9th May 2016 and is expected to be back by February 2017.
Per Mertesacker
Club captain Mertesacker has gone through a knee surgery recently, which will keep him out of action for at least 5 months. The German Centre-half is expected to be back before January 2017.
Carl Jenkinson
A torn ligament in the knee has kept Jenkinson out for 134 days from any sort of footballing activity and it is believed that he won’t be available until December 2016, while a few sources also claim that his return date is uncertain.
Gabriel Paulista
After Per Mertesacker’s injury blow, Wenger had plotted Gabriel in his position, but he got injured too. Gabriel is believed to have suffered from an ankle ligament injury/Malleolar injury, and will not return to action before mid-October!
Aaron Ramsey
Do you remember the last time when Ramsey played a complete season without getting injured? Well, I don’t. The Welshman is again out with an injury, picked up during the Gunners’ 4-3 defeat against Liverpool, and guess what? it is a hamstring injury yet again. Although, the good news is that Ramsey is expected to be back by September 10th.
Jack Wilshere
Wilshere has a long list of injuries, but the good news is that the 25-year-old will hopefully return to full fitness before Arsenal’s next Premier League match against defending champions Leicester City. Wilshere had a knee injury – Patellar Tendonitis.
Alex Iwobi
Apart from Ramsey, Iwobi also injured himself during their 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at the Emirates. The 20-year-old Nigerian winger suffered a hip injury, which will keep him out for one month approximately.
