Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has expressed his disappointment after not being asked by Arsene Wenger to take up a coaching role with Arsenal. Vieira is currently working with Manchester City to fulfil his ambitions of moving in to management.
Vieira was speaking to French Newspaper L’Equipe where he opened up about the disappointment of waiting for a call from Arsene Wenger, which never came in the end. Vieira discussed how he got an offer from Manchester City and City being his last professional club, Vieira decided to take the role.
Vieira confronted that he did not see any chance of presenting himself to Arsene Wenger for a possible coaching role at the club.
Vieira said: “Everywhere I go, people say that to me, “It was out of the question for me to put myself forward. Why would I have done?
“When I stopped playing, I had an offer from City, and I didn’t get a call from Arsene. If he had wanted me to work with him, he would have asked me.
“It was a disappointment for me, both from the club but also Arsene. I gave a lot to Arsenal, and the club and Arsene gave me a lot too.”
Vieira currently is in charge of Manchester City’s youth team and has been tipped to be the successor to Manuel Pellegrini if the City manager is fired mid-season. However, Vieira has distanced himself from any speculation of becoming the next Man City boss.
Vieira said: “There is a manager in place so I am not asking myself that question,” Vieira, whose contract expires this summer, said. “I will soon talk to my bosses. Our relationship is excellent, and I feel very good at the club. Why not continue to flourish with the youth team?”
