New Twist: Arsenal Offer Arsene Wenger a Contract Extension
Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal are yet again blowing their season after the turn of the year as they have managed to take just 4 points from 5 games since the turn of the year.
Though they are active in two cup competitions, the recent loss to Chelsea has all but ended their title hopes and they have a place in the Champions League to fight for next season.
This loss in form has yet again seen the fans turn against the manager with a few calling for his sack at the end of the season.
But according to a recent story, the club’s hierarchy are planning for the future and Wenger is a part of it.
The French manager, who has completed 20 years at the Emirates, has taken the club to some successful times but the in the last few years, it is evident that Arsenal has failed to progress with big steps.
However, Arsenal are now ready to offer Wenger a bumper 2-year contract extension at the end of the season.
The manager is without a contract this summer but according to a story from The Sunday Times, Wenger will be offered a contract extension at the end of the season.
The Gunners are currently in the 3rd place in the points table, 12 points off Chelsea at the top of the table, and there is every little chance for them to catch up with their London rivals at the top of the table.
And of Arsenal go trophy-less this season, the pressure will only mount on the manager.
But according to the report, the Arsenal hierarchy also have the futures of a couple of star players in mind.
Former La Liga duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are easily the most important players in the squad at the Emirates and Arsenal have been trying to tie them down to long term contracts.
However, both players are adamant that they want to see where the future of the manager lies before taking a decision and Arsenal are now ready to tie Wenger down to the long term, also helping them to get Ozil and Sanchez to put pen to paper.
It is understood that Arsenal are ready to offer Wenger a two-year extension that will see him stay at the club till 2019, 23 years after he first joined the club.
The report suggests that a larger portion of the fan base is not happy with this decision but do you think Arsene Wenger should be offered a contract extension at the end of the season?
