Arsenal has begun 2017 in the best way possible as they won 2-0 against Stoke City. The hosts have dominated the game from the start and have put into an early lead thanks to a wonder goal from striker Olivier Giroud.
The Gunners further upped their tempo as they doubled their lead early in the second half courtesy of a header from Alex Iwobi. The win mean Arsenal have ensured that they only remain nine points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.
Here we look at the player ratings of Arsenal stars as they strolled past Stoke with ease.
Cech- 7
Maintained a clean-sheet as he had little to do but have ensured he is up to the task by making two great saves when called upon.
Bellerin- 7
The young Spaniard is back to his form as he looked impressive going forward and has also looked sharp in the defence.
Gabriel- 6
He was rarely tested throughout the game. Has looked decent overall as he managed to deal with Benteke in the middle.
Koscielny -7
Hardly put a foot wrong as the Frenchman has maintained his standards when called upon to act.
Monreal- 7
Brilliant going forward as he played a big role in Iwobi’s goal in the second half. He played in the opposition half for most of the game.
Elneny- 6
Worked well in the middle of the park with simple passing to keep the attack going and also helped defensively well.
Xhaka- 7
He was been simply brilliant with his passing as he ensured that the attack is quick to break from their defensive duties.
Sanchez- 7
Another brilliant performance overall to go with an assist for the first goal that Giroud slotted home. Apart from that, he put in a hard shift to ensure three points for the club.
Perez- 7
Was brilliant in making runs into Palace defence as he opened space for other attackers to exploit.
Iwobi- 8
The Nigerian is definitely looking like the one for the future as he capped off his performance with his first headed goal for Arsenal.
Giroud- 8
The Frenchman scored a class goal as his scorpion kick that many consider better than that of Mkhitaryan, earlier this week. However, he was unable to convert other easier chances.
