Arsenal Player Ratings In 3-1 Loss At Anfield: 4s and 5s All Around! 1

Arsene Wenger was handed his 4th defeat in his last 6 games in all competitions on his trip to Anfield this weekend. Having left Alexis Sanchez on the bench, Arsenal were just not able to get a foothold in the game and conceded an early goal through Firmino. Sadio mane doubled the lead before half-time and though Danny Welbeck pulled one back to compliment a slightly better second half, Liverpool manages to hold on to their lead and doubled it again as Wijnaldum got into the act late in the game. This loss puts Arsenal out of the top-4 and with plenty of work to do if they are to finish in the top-4 come the end of the season. Here are the player ratings for the Gunners for this game:

Petr Cech (5):

Could not do much to stop either goal but was generally not as solid and confident as he usually is for Arsenal.

Hector Bellerin (6):

A constant threat on the counter for Liverpool, Bellerin had a decent game, also0 putting a shift at the other end.

Shkodran Mustafi (5):

Was constantly troubled by the Liverpool front three as he could have done better for the first two Liverpool goals on the night.

Laurent Koscielny (5):

Not his usual self on the night and was at fault for Liverpool’s first goal giving the Liverpool front three plenty of space in dangerous areas.

Nacho Monreal (5):

Was decent against the likes of Mane but was not useful the other end as was regularly pushed back by a fluid Liverpool attack on the night.

Francis Coquelin (4):

A peripheral figure on the night as he failed to provide enough cover for the back four, only to be replaced by Sanchez at half-time.

Granit Xhaka (5):

Tried his best to keep Liverpool at bay and also created a couple of half chances but just not enough to give Arsenal a victory.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (4):

Used his pace to good effect in the first half but was not involved enough in the second half to give Arsenal a shot at even a point.

Danny Welbeck (5):

Struggled to create or trouble the Liverpool back four but came up with the only goal for Arsenal on a productive night.

Alex Iwobi (4):

Playing a slightly deeper role on the night, Iwobi was also ineffective for most periods of the game leaving Arsenal a bit short in attack.

Olivier Giroud (4):

Carrying a niggle right from the start of the game, Giroud failed to trouble the Liverpool backline and his header that was pushed wide by Mignolet was his only contribution to Arsenal’s game.

Subs:

Lucas Perez (5):

Came in too late in the game to have a real effect on the scoreline.

Alexis Sanchez (7):

Came in at halftime and improve the Arsenal attack straight away. Picked up an assist for Welbeck’s goal but could not do enough to earn a point.

Theo Walcott (5):

Got in behind the Liverpool defense on a couple of occasions late in the game when Arsenal went for the kill.
