Goals from Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi were enough for Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal to take all three points from Stoke City’s trip to the Etihad this weekend.
Mark Hughes’s side took an early lead but the Gunners showed great mentality to walk back into the game and run away with a victory. This game extends their unbeaten run to 14 games and keeps them in the second place, 3 points off the top of the table.
The manager will know that he has a squad capable of getting through the busy festive season but he will have one eye on the January transfer market to try and sing players who fit his style that are ready to leave.
One such player who may be on his way to the Emirates in January is Wolfsburg’s German playmaker Julian Draxler.
The Gunners have been a fan of the playmaker for a couple of years now and made a bid for him back in 2014 which was rejected by Draxler’s former club Schalke.
He then switched to Wolfsburg last summer under interests from Arsenal but he has not been able to settle into life at the new club and is already plotting a move away from the club.
The manager of the German outfit, who dropped the 23-year old to the bench in the recent loss to Bayern, revealed that it was a mistake from him to keep him at the club this summer and is now resolved at losing him in January.
Wolfsburg are just two points off the bottom of the table and are low on confidence and leaving a star player can hurt them but the German outfit are convinced that Draxler has no real future at the club and are ready to cash in on him in January.
With Wenger ready to pay the asking price, the German outfit have revealed that Draxler might be available for around the £30m mark in January.
There are a number of potential suitors for the player in Europe but Bayern Munich, the biggest club in his home country, ruled out a move for him in January, leaving Wenger with no real competition for his signature.
Though his price may be high, he is a top class player who can win games single handedly and it is now understood that Wenger is ready to make a £30m bid for him in January.
At 23, Draxler has a lot of time to grow into a better player than he already is and Wenger might be the right man to take him in that direction. Do you think Julian Draxler is a good purchase for Wenger?
