Arsene Wenger is looking strengthen his midfield as Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a £22 million bid for Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, according to Telegraph.

Arsenal scouts flew out to watch the Polish international midfielder on Tuesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash between UEFA Champion League winner Barcelona and UEFA Eurpa League winner Sevilla.

Sevilla lost the match despite the heroics from Unai Emery’s side. They came back from a 4-1 scoreline to make it 4-4 but a late winner from Pedro sealed the win for Barcelona.

Krychowiak is now emerging as a serious target for the Arsenal manager as he considers making further additions before the transfer window closes on 1st September.

So far, the only summer signing for the Gunners is Petr Cech who did not do well in his Premier League debut.

Arsenal have maintained a consistent interest in the Polish international over the past 18 months and Wenger is looking to bring in another defensive midfielder to compete for a place with Francis Coquelin.

The 25-year-old joined the Stellar Group agency, who also represent Joe Hart and Gareth Bale, earlier this summer and is believed to be open to the prospect of joining a Premier League club competing in the Champions League.

Krychowiak’s contract situation leaves Sevilla powerless if a club trigger the buy-out clause worth £22 million and Arsenal considered making a move in the January transfer window.

But Wenger may now step up his interest in the former Nantes, Bordeaux and Reims midfielder, who started the game against Barcelona in Tbilisi.

The defensive midfielder had a spectacular last season at Seville and is particularly known for his blocking, interceptions, aerial abilities and tackling.

Capped 24 times for Poland, the midfielder is a key player for his country.

The midfielder was included in La Liga Team of the Season in his maiden season in Spain and would be an amazing addition to the Gunners if the deal goes through.
