According to reports,Manchester United were ready to offer Arsenal full-back Mathieu Debuchy a five-year deal as they were all set to sign the player in last January’s transfer window.
French news outlet L’Equipe reported that the then Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal was very interested in the right-back and wanted to land him at the Old Trafford. Reports in February also suggested that the Gunners blocked a loan move for their out of favour player to Manchester United. The France international was very annoyed when his club blocked the move and had said:“It would have been magnificent (a move to United).“I discussed it with the coach, who said that obviously, he couldn’t help out a rival.”

Instead, he was loaned out to French outfit Bordeaux in January for the remainder of the season. He has now returned to London but he has still not regained his place. The 31-year old, who moved to Emirates in 2014 after some world class displays for Newcastle United, lost his place to Hector Bellerin and things are still not looking good for him. Recently, he was overlooked by Arsene Wenger in favour of Carl Jenkinson to replace the injured Hector Bellerin. The Spaniard’s month-long absence due to an injury had raised hopes that the French player might get a chance to prove himself but Jenkinson’s selection is a clear indication that he is surplus to the requirements at the Emirates.
Meanwhile, London Evening Standard has reported that the right-back is looking to quit the North London outfit in the upcoming transfer window due to a lack of game time. The report claimed that while a move to United looks extremely bleak due to Wenger’s relationship with Jose Mourinho, Debuchy might try to join Lillee where he spent nearly ten years before moving to Newcastle.
