Arsenal striker out for six weeks after suffering ankle injury
Arsenal striker Lucas Perez is all set to remain on the sidelines for six weeks after suffering an ankle ligament injury in his team’s 2-0 win over Reading in the EFL Cup earlier this week.
The Spaniard has found it hard to get enough playing time so far and will be very disappointed with the latest turn of events. He was given a rare start by Arsene Wenger but the striker failed to grab the opportunity and was forced off in the 72nd minute after being caught on his left ankle by a heavy Danzell Gravenberch tackle. He tried to continue but the pain got the better of him and was replaced by Chris Willock soon after. The injury was not looking very serious initially but according to reports in IBTimes, he will miss the action for six weeks.
The latest injury setback will be a huge blow for the North London club who are gearing up for their busiest and most challenging month so far this term. With the Gunners set to face PSG, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur in November, Arsene Wenger would have hoped to have a full squad at his disposal. The quarterfinal of the EFL Cup against Southampton will also be played in the next month and the unavailability of the former Deportivo La Coruna striker will only increase the tension for Wenger.
Meanwhile, the injury will also be a huge blow to the striker’s hopes of cementing his spot in the team. Arsene Wenger has preferred Alexis Sanchez as the centre-forward and the Chile international has done a brilliant job so far. The return of Olivier Giroud is only going to make the matters tough for Perez. After signing for the English club for £17 million this term, the striker has started just one league game and was finally looking to settle down after being involved in Arsenal’s last three matches against Reading, Middlesbrough and the 6-0 win against Ludogorets.
