Liverpool started their season with an emphatic win over Arsenal but not before a mighty scare. The north London club opened the scoring in the 31st minute when an Alex Iwobi cross was finished brilliantly on the far post by Theo Walcott but a brilliant free-kick from Phillipe Coutinho just before the end of first half restored parity.
The Merseyside club, who were finding it tough to get their rhythm in the first half, started the second half brilliantly as a three-goal blitz within 18 minutes, one each from Coutinho Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane after the restart saw the visitors racing away to a 4-1 lead. And just when it looked like the match was over, two goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers in ten minutes saw Arsenal clawing their way back into the match but the visitors held on to their one-goal lead in the final fifteen minutes to seal a great match.
