Arsene Wenger’s Pre-match press conference – Confident of FA Cup Win
Arsene Wenger believes that Arsenal can seal their FA cup fate by beating Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night. Wenger has a terrible record at Old Trafford in recent years.
Wenger is without a win in his last 10 visits to Manchester United, drawing 1 and losing 9. Last time Arsenal won at Old Trafford was back in 2006 when Adebayore’s only goal sealed the win for Gunners.
Despite this horrific track record Wenger is confident of putting one over Louis Van Gaal’s men in the FA Cup. Speaking in his press conference ahead of the game, Wenger lauded his side’s recent away record and credited his stars for getting their heads together.
Wenger said: “The cup tie against United is of special intensity because it is between two teams who have a chance to win this competition,”
“Both teams will think: ‘If we get over this hurdle, we have a good opportunity to win the competition.’
“I don’t believe too much in history. I just believe in the performance on the day. At the moment, we are doing very well away from home.”
“We are confident from our Premier League run [seven wins in eight]. We feel we have the needed confidence. We go to there to qualify and to give absolutely everything.”
Wenger’s comments will spark the fire among Arsenal players and get one over their rivals. Team news will be crucial for the Gunners as they are awaiting to see if Wojciech Szczezsny would be fit to start in goal or not. Szczezsny is down with a viral and is doing his best to be fit for this monumental clash.
Wenger went on to discuss about Paul Scholes’ criticism of Mesut OZil. Scholes earlier had said that OZil took the easier option by joining Arsenal and his efforts on the pitch do not indicate that he really cares playing for the club.
In it’s response, Wenger claimed, Scholes would have loved to play alongside Ozil and the German is pitting a great shift both on the training pitch and in the games. Wenger defended Ozil’s playing side and said:
“You can be cheated a little bit by his style of play, because he is fluent, easy, supple and he does not look like he puts the effort in, but he does.
These two sides meet for the FA Cup quarter final on Monday and it promises to be one of the games of the season, as Man United have their home form and an excellent track record against Arsenal at Old Trafford on their side while Arsenal and Wenger are determined to put one over their long-term hoodoo.
