Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed midfielder Mesut Ozil is suffering from lack of confidence after a string of poor performances in the recent weeks.
The German midfielder was at the top of the his game in the first half of the season which saw Arsenal as the title contenders for Premier League this year.
However, his dip of form has also effected Arsenal’s game as the Gunners have lost their way in the title race and are now looking to finish in the top four to qualify for next year’s Champions League.
The 28-year old had not scored since December for the club and the manager is worried about his form in the recent weeks.
‘I felt he was not completely confident technically [against Hull],’ said Wenger.
‘I completely agree, that’s a problem because you always think he can deliver something special.
‘It’s true that technically he did things that he is not used to doing. I don’t know why, it can happen.
‘Maybe it’s time for him to score a goal again. He needs to find his confidence again. He misses chances that don’t look unfeasible for him.’
The presence of Ozil would play a massive role when Arsenal meet Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena later this week in the first leg of Round-of-16.
Ozil’s form will be a subject of concern for Wenger against the European giants as Gunners are determined to create an upset to progress to quarterfinals of Champions League, which they have not managed in their last six campaigns.
Mesut Ozil has been linked with a move away from Arsenal as he is yet to sign a new contract with the club. However, despite his recent dip of form, he is arguably the best chance creator in entire Europe.
There will be plenty of suitors for the German midfielder if he decides to leave Emirates this summer but it will be critical on the player considering the amount of stick he us getting the recent weeks.
