Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has criticised the underperforming Arsenal stars for the club’s poor performances.

Arsenal lost back to back matches at the UEFA Champions League. Two weeks back they lost to minnows Dinamo Zagreb in an opening day fixture and this week they lost to Olympiakos 3-2. The Gunners are in a relatively easier group as neither Zagreb nor Olympiakos matches the might of the side. Unfortunately, even before Arsenal could meet group toppers Bayern Munich they have failed to register any points.

Arsenal lost 3-2 against the Greek champions at their home stadium which is even more embarrassing. They are now struggling at the rock bottom position in the Group table.

After Tuesday’s defeat Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger apparently blasted the underperforming players and accused them of lacking enough passion for the club.

Colombian custodian David Ospina was at fault for the second goal which Arsenal conceded. Ospina was extremely poor throughout the match.

Among the few other notable names, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil are the two prominent faces in the Arsenal squad who have not delivered as expected.

Arsene Wenger did not buy a striker in the transfer window as he had immense faith over Giroud. Wenger generally fields Theo Walcott as the front striker who has done a commendable job this season in this unusual position. But whenever Giroud has been entrusted with the job he has miserably failed.

Mesut Ozil also has not lived up to the expectation as he is yet to make an impact this season. Except for some quality passes, Ozil has not done anything.

Arsenal takes on Bayern Munich, who beat Dinamo Zagreb 5-0 on Tuesday evening inside the Allianz Arena, in their next two games in the competition.

The star players were surprised by the nature of Wenger’s criticism, but they have little to complain about after failing to beat the Greek champions at the Emirates.

A meeting was held after the defeat against Olympiakos and although the meeting is traditionally designed for players to give their insights in a healthy exchange with coaching staff, this time they sat in silence and accepted Wenger’s snubbing.

Wenger maintained his own unique style by refusing to single out individuals during the meeting, but the first team squad have been left in no doubt that he expects them to raise their standards.

Arsenal has a massive game at home to Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester United on Sunday at the Emirates and Wenger needs a big performance from his players.
