Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he will recall Arsenal midfielder Serge Gnabry from his loan spell at West Brom.

The 20-year-old has struggled to make an impact at The Hawthorns and has only a solitary appearance to his name this season. Baggies manager Tony Pulis revealed the reason for Gnabry’s absence from the team.

“He picked up an injury before he came and he was a little bit weighty, a bit heavy and it took us a while to get him into that mode.”

“Serge has been brilliant. He’s not played as many games as he would have wanted to play.

“But he’s been good to have around the place. He was very unfortunate because he came here injured and I think people forget that.

“Once he was fit, fitting him into that team and what we were trying to do was difficult and then he picked up another injury so he’s had a bit of a topsy turvy start. For the kid, if you speak to him, he wants to play week in week out.

The Germany U21 international has been left out of the Baggies’ matchday squad for a majority of his loan spell and Wenger says the midfielder may be sent out on loan to a different club in order to get more game time.

“I am tempted to give him some competition because at the moment, he has not played at West Brom, so I am tempted to let him go somewhere – to do with him what I did with [Francis] Coquelin,” said Wenger.

“To go somewhere for a month or two and then come back.”

Championship club Brighton are rumoured to be interested in taking the midfielder on loan until the end of the season.

Gnabry joined the Gunners from Stuttgart’s academy in 2011 and has already made 19 first-team appearances for Arsenal.
