Manchester United signed French international striker Anthony Martial for a world record transfer fee £36 million on the transfer deadline day. If add ons are considered then the deal sums up to 80 million Euros which is transfer record fee for a teenager and Martial became the most expensive French player in history.
The deal retracted mixed reaction from the football world. While some supported Louis van Gaal’s decision some slammed teh Dutchman for spending such a huge amount for a youngster who had scored just 10 goals last season.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had also opined about this huge record deal. Speaking to bein Sports, the French manager said: “What happened last night with Monaco, who sold Martial to Manchester United for 80million Euros, I’ve heard.
“Martial scored 11 goals in the French championship – that sums it up well. That means it’s not the money that’s missing at the moment, it’s not the desire of investment that is missing, it’s the number of players available who can strengthen the big clubs.
“So am I happy with the investment I make? Yes, every time. I bought Sanchez, I bought Ozil, I bought Cech, I bought Gabriel last year.”
Arsenal surpsingly bought just one player, Petr Cech in this transfer window from Chelsea for a mere £10 million. Many felt that Arsenal needed a world class at their squad so that the team can become worthy of champions.
But Wenger has other thoughts as he protected his transfer policy and explained it clearly. The Gunners boss added: “The problem at the moment is finding the players that guarantees you are a better team after, and that example last night shows you very well.
“Martial is a huge talent – he’s 19-years-old. The investment is absolutely huge as well. It shows you that there’s not many players in the world who can strengthen these teams.”
