Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal has urged Arsenal to play attacking football against German giants when both the sides meet in Champions League on Wednesday at Allianz Arena.
Arsenal would be the under dogs going into the match as Bayern Munich have won consecutive Champions League games in Allianz Arena, a streak that is still going on. The likes of Juventus, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid have all failed to manage at least a draw at the iconic stadium in the last two and half years.
The Gunners also do not have fond memories from their last visit in previous season as they were bashed 5-1 by the hosts. However, Arsenal will look to score at least an away goal to stay alive in the tie going into the second leg of Round-of-16.
Vidal who has seen teams playing defensive game at Allianz Arena has hoped that quality sides like Arsenal should play attacking football.
‘Teams have to show what they are made of in Europe,’ the Chilean midfielder told TZ.
‘That is why Bayern will show its true face in the Champions League.
‘Here in Germany, teams are set to defend when they play Bayern. In the Champions League, teams try to play football.
‘I hope Arsenal will play like they have been playing all season in England and want to play football against us.’
Despite the optimism, it would yet again be a tough task for the Gunners as Bayern Munich have won 10 of their last 11 competitive games across all competitions. However, Arsenal are determined to break into quarterfinals which they have not managed in their last six campaigns.
Bayern Munich are a class apart as they have at least reached semi-finals of the competition for the last five seasons, which no team has managed over that period. Expectations are high on Bayern and the pressure will be on the home side as Arsenal eye a precious away goal to enhance their chances going into second leg.
