ATK footballers may get rare scope of parading in front of Messi, Neymar
The Indian footballers of Athletico De Kolkata (ATK) who flew on Tuesday morning to Madrid for the pre-season training for the forthcoming Indian Super League, might have a rare opportunity to get closer to the World’s best footballers like Leonel Messi and Neymar De Silva Santos Junior.
According to the fixture of the La Liga this season, Barcelona is scheduled to participate in an away match against Athletico Madrid (ATM) on September 12. And the top officials of ATM have planned that before the start of that match, they will promote their first title in the ISL last year, by asking the players to parade at the Vicente Calderon Stadium with the ISL trophy.
However, ATK officials are worried about the availability of training ground before their campaign in the second ISL on 3rd October in Chennai. The team’s Spanish coach Antonio Lopez Habas is not satisfied with the poor light condition at the SAI training grounds and the coach also does not want his boys train on the Astro turf at the Barasat Stadium.
That is why, the Spanish coach has planned to extend the period of the training camp. ATK will be training in Spain from 28th August to 23rd September. And after returning from Madrid, the team will practice at the Salt lake Stadium ground for an around a week before participating in a friendly match against either Nepal or Bangladesh.
Incidentally, the Indian footballers like Rahim Nabi, Jewel Raja seemed excited to get the opportunity to undergo high-altitude training in Segovia, 80 kilometers from Madrid. Nabi said, “I went to Spain for training last under the coaching Bob Houghton around nine years ago. Naturally, I am feeling thrilled to go again this time. And I also have learned that Habas conducts excellent fitness training which helped the footballers perform at their best in the last season.”
