After a lot of dilly-dallying over team’s practice, Mohun Bagan Club has finally announced the training of its senior football team from 23rd November. Club secretary Anjan Mitra, speaking to media on Saturday said, “The senior team will start training from 23rd November.” Incidentally, secretary also revealed that after an executive committee meeting held on Saturday, each of the members have come to an agreement that Sony Norde’s contract with Mohun Bagan must be renewed in any way.
And in a bid to materialize that initiative, club’s president and industrialist Swapan Sadhan Bose himself has promised to come forward with financial help. The executive committee members have also stressed on the matter in the meeting that Cornel Glen, the former World Cupper from Trinidad & Tobago should also be recruited immediately.
Incidentally, Mohun Bagan Club has also been plagued by huge financial crisis in a similar way as they were in the last season. The key reason is that UB Group, the title sponsor of the team till last season has left and the company has not also clear its dues which is nearly Rs 4.5 crores.
The club officials have also decided to move to court against the sponsor. But at the same time they need nearly Rs 10 crores to run the senior team this season. The footballers and the coaching staffs have also dues for the last two months. According to an official, “The president is likely to attend the training on the opening day and he is likely to clear players’ dues on the day.”
