F.C Barcelona buy Valencia goalkeeper Neto in a deal worth €26m plus 9m in add-ons.
The Brazilian international has signed a four year contract with his release clause set at €200 million. The signing was announced by Barcelona just a few hours after they announced the departure of Jasper Cillessen, who was transferred to Valencia in a €35 million deal.
29 year old, Neto comes as a second choice goalkeeper for Barcelona, who will play as a backup of their number one goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen.
F.C Barcelona said in a statement on their official website “FC Barcelona and Valencia CF have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Norberto Murara Neto. The cost of the transaction will be €26m plus €9m in add-ons.”
Neto made his name in Europen football in the city of Florence, where he played for Fiorentina in the Seria A. His outstanding performances earned him a transfer to Juventus in 2015, where he played as a backup to Gianlugi Buffon. He wasn’t given much playing time in Turin and when Valencia came calling he went to Mestalla in a €7 million transfer. Now he’s set to play at the Camp Nou and challenge Ter Stegen for playing time.
Neto is Barcelona’s third signing of the summer following the signings of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax and Emerson for Atletico-MG, although they are likely to carry on the spending, with stars Antoine Griezmann and Neymar also strongly linked with a move.
