Chelsea have surprisingly turned their attention to land Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The former Arsenal captain joined the Catalans only in January earlier this year after terminating his contract with the Gunners. However, after just six months at the La Liga side, Aubameyang could be heading to London once again, this time with Chelsea.
The Blues have inquired about the 33-year-old and Barcelona are open to negotiate a deal as well. Barcelona need to sell their high-earners in order to register new signings and offloading Aubameyang could massively help their cause. They have now let known Chelsea the asking price for their striker who has a contract at the Camp Nou through the summer of 2025.
Barca want Chelsea to shell out €25 million for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
While the Catalans snapped up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for free in the winter market, the move turned out to be a fruitful one for them. Aubameyang went on to score 13 goals in just 23 games for Barcelona in all competitions.
However, now that the Blaugrana have brought in a lot of attacking potent in Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, add to the already available Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele they are ready to part ways with Aubameyang. Further on, Chelsea have already held talks with them for the striker and are ready to table a bid for him.
Barcelona have told Chelsea they will need to splash out €25 million for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to Spanish outlet Relevo. The Blues’ manager Thomas Tuchel, who has already worked with the striker at Borussia Dortmund is pushing for a move adds the report.
Aubameyang enjoyed a successful stint under Tuchel at Dortmund during which he racked up 79 goals in 95 appearances. Tuchel now needs an experienced center-forward to lead his attack after losing both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in this transfer market. While Lukaku returned to Inter Milan on loan, Werner went back as well to RB Leipzig on a permanent deal.
While speaking in his pre-match presser ahead of Chelsea’s league clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Tuchel on being asked about the Aubameyang links said: “I enjoyed a lot working with him [at Borussia Dortmund]. It was a pleasure. This has nothing to do with the situation now, but players stay your players because you work very, very close. Auba is one of these players.”
He further added, “We had a very close relationship. Always when we played him here with Arsenal, there was always straight away this close bond. They always stay your players in a way, Auba is one of these guys”. Certainly, Tuchel looks eager to link up again with his former striker. Aubameyang massive experience plying his trade in the Premier League with Arsenal, scoring 68 goals in 128 Premier League games.
He perfectly fits the kind of striker Tuchel wants and is pushing the new owner Todd Boehly to close a deal. However, early reports tell that Chelsea feel €25 million is a bit more than their evaluation of the 33-year-old. But talks are going to continue between the two sides to broker a deal before the deadline day of September 1.
