EPL giants on high alert as Barcelona ready to sell trio
We might soon see a break in the magnificent partnership that is reigning Barcelona as the Club’s dwindling fortunes cannot handle the task of keeping three superstars on their payroll.
Barcelona’s sinking fortunes have become Manchester’s gain as both the Manchester outfits are lining up to get hold of Messi and Neymar if the champions happen to be in the market. Luis Suarez too might bid adieu to Nou Camp if the club can get a decent price. Both the Premier League giants are fighting against each other to sign the Catalan duo with willing to pay upto 350 million pounds! And what does not bode well for the Barcelona is that the English teams are willing to offer salary checks that the Nou Camp outfit cannot match given its current financial status.
Barcelona is currently in a financial crisis with about 75% of its revenues going in for wage payments and an extension plan of the stadium costing 423 million pounds does not help their cause. Furthermore a treble last season proved to be financially crippling for the management as they were forced to pay bonuses to the players. What adds to the woes of the team is the lack of a sponsor for the next season. Though TV revenue is a 99 million pounds shinning light but that too seems puny when compared to the money flow in England. And the players are well aware of the monetary scenario that the club finds itself in and the scope that they might have in Britain.
Manchester City boasts of an additional Chinese investment to their already overflowing fortunes and what might further attract Messi and Neyamr to the Etihad arena is a chance to possibly team up with Pep Guardiola. Though Barcelona can increase Neymar’s wage structure making him a top earner just like Messi to lure him to extend his contract and stay with them, but increasing Messi’s salary structure would burn a big hole in the club’s pockets.
“Messi will never leave Barca. It is part of our emblem and our heart. I received many proposals when I was president. Notably Inter, who wanted to pay his release clause, but I always refused. For Neymar, it’s different. The economic situation of the club is not good. The current president must sell players or assets to balance the books” former President Joan Laporta voiced the biggest task that lies ahead for the club. So it will be only a matter of time when the tough choice would face the management. Who to keep and who to sell!
