It is very rare that someone like Lothar Matthaus passes on a suggestion to someone but when he does people should take it very serious. Former Germany and Bayern Munich legend had very positive things to say about Manchester United’s pursuit of Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Matthaus was speaking with BILD and highlighted how United manager Louis Van Gaal understands Schweinsteiger’s playing style and will give him enough opportunity to thrive at Old Trafford.
Matthaus said: “If there is an offer from Manchester, Bastian should give it serious consideration.”
Matthaus was speaking about Schweinsteiger’s lack of first team action since Xabi Alonso’s arrival at the Allianz Arena. Speaking in that regards, Matthaus has suggested Schweinsteiger to consider the option of joining Manchester United in the summer.
Matthaus said: “Guardiola played Alonso there in the most important matches and Schweinsteiger had to step into another role that does not suit him,”
“Schweinsteiger has never been the fastest player in the world and, as he turns 31 soon, that will not improve in the future, but he is certainly intelligent enough and has the necessary vision to be the central link between defence and offensive midfield.”
Former World Cup winner clearly told Schweinsteiger not to join MLS in case he deicdes to quit Allianz Arena in the summer. Mathhaus shared his own experience when he joined the MLS, according to him it distances a German player from his team mates and friends.
According to Mathhaus, if Schweinsteiger has any hopes of playing in Euros 2016, he must stay in top flight of European football and Manchester United should be his ideal destination.
