Uli Hoeness is a much loved figure in Munich. Other than being part of Franz Beckenbauer’s world cup winning squad and all conquering Bayern Munich squad; the Former German and Bayern forward has been a great helping hand to other clubs in the country. The son of a butcher, Uli Hoeness now owns a Nuremburg based ‘bratwurst’ chain. After retirement Hoeness was appointed as commercial chief of the German Giants. He has lent a helping hand financially and commercially to many clubs in Germany including the likes of – FC St. Pauli, Hertha BSC, Borussia Dortmund, 1860 München and Hansa Rostock

News about allegations of tax evasion by the Bayern Chief surprised one-and-all. While everyone around the world expected the German legend to appear for the trial and fight these allegations, the news received late on Monday from the capital struck everyone by surprise. The Bayern chief released a statement that he won’t contest an investigator’s conclusion he evaded millions more in taxes than previously admitted.

The 62-year-old was charged with dodging 3.5 million euros ($4.85 million) in taxes, but admitted on Monday to avoiding 15 million euros more.On Tuesday, an investigator who evaluated new documentation turned over by Mr.Hoeness shortly before the trial testified he owed 27.2 million euros in total.

As much as that was a shock to all of the footballing fraternity it also showed cracks in the integrity of modern football management. Taking the legends recent admittance into consideration, a verdict is expected by late Thursday regarding the possible prison sentence and financial fine Hoeness will have to pay.
