Begovic to become first choice custodian under Antonio Conte?

Stamford Bridge based franchise Chelsea are making sure that they give the new incoming manager Antonio Conte every chance to look at their players even before the end of the current season.

In a bid to help Conte understand the squad, current manager Guus Hiddink is set to recall ex-Stoke City keeper Asmir Begovic for a start in the game against Swansea City on Saturday.

Begovic started the season under Jose Mourinho as the first choice after Thibaut Courtois was injured for a month. However, he has lost his place in the starting XI ever since the Belgian was back fit and it is now understood that Begovic will get plenty of chances from now to the end of the season to show what he is capable of.

Chelsea want Conte to take a close look at Begovic in the 7 remaining fixtures this season as they are hoping that the 28-year old can assume the gloves from Courtois who is expected to leave the club this summer.

It is understood that Courtois is high on the wish list at Real Madrid who are also scouting Manchester United’s David de Gea. If a deal for the Spanish shot-stopper falls through like it did last summer, Courtois will be high on the wish list at the Bernabeu this summer.

Thought the Belgian is expected to cost in-excess of £50million, if Real Madrid come calling and meet the asking price, Chelsea will find it hard to keep the player from returning to the Spanish capital.

And if Begovic can prove himself as the perfect fiddle for Chelsea, Courtois might just make the move to Spain in the summer.

The incoming manager Anotnio Conte has already held talks with a number of players at the club and he will be interested to see the progress of Begovic who will push the want-away Belgian to the bench for the remainder of the season.

Begovic has a good relationship with goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon who, together with first-team coach Steve Holland and technical director Michael Emenalo, is expected to stay at Stamford Bridge during the Conte era.

This will only help the 28-year old to ease into his place at the club under Conte next season.

However, the whole squad will be playing for their places as the new manager will surely try to bring in his own players to help him in his adventure in England.

Do you think Begovic can become Chelsea’s undisputed shot stopper under Antonio Conte next season?
