Belgium rises to number 1 in FIFA world rankings for the first time in football history overtaking world champion Germany and Argentina.

Mark Wilmot’s team makes the top with 1440 points, while No 2 Germany has 1388 points, third placed Argentina make it to the list with 1383 points. England are in 9th position just behind Brazil.

Fifa’s current world ranking process rarely catches attention for right reasons in the recent past and now it throws another unexpected appearance in the limelight as Belgium rose to the No1 position in ranking making them the highest ranked team of the football planet.

Belgium actually confirmed the no 1 spot after winning their final Euro 2016 qualifier. Wilmot’s at present is bolstered with world class talents, yet they are known to be a squad still in the development phase, not an established powerhouse of European football.

2014 World Cup qualification advanced Belgium to a major tournament like Euro Cup for the first time since 2002, but they didn’t look that much convincing in making it to Euro, losing and drawing against Wales also failing to score a goal over 180 minutes. Not only that, they dropped points to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Last summer In Brazil World Cup also the Belgians produced a number of low-scoring matches against oppositions whom a world no.1 team will demolish with ease, managing only three goals in normal time from five matches, never once scoring earlier than 70th minute.

Maybe Belgium’s win in all of the group stage matches in Brazil, fared well to qualify for the Euro 2016 and with wins in recent friendlies against Tunisia, Slovakia, Australia and Luxembourg look to count more success than Germany actually winning the 2014 World Cup.
