Ben Arfa could retire :  Lawyer

French winger Hatem Ben Arfa’s agent Jean-Jacques Bertrand has hinted that his client could retire from football after the French Football League (LFP) banned him from playing competitive games with his new club Nice.

The 27-year-old joined the Ligue 1 outfit from Newcastle earlier in January, after Hull decided to cut-short his loan spell.

And the player’s lawyer has come out to deliver this rather surprising news.

“In the back of his mind there is the possibility to quit,” he told Infosport Plus TV.

“His stay in Nice will end tomorrow. It is out of the question that Hatem will finish his season at Nice.”

FIFA does not permit a player to appear for more than two clubs in a season. Ben Arfa, before joining Hull on-loan, appeared for Newcastle U-21’s in a 5-2 win over Reading Under-21s in August.

Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere earlier revealed that the club will go to Administrative Court against the governing body’s decision.

“A decision has finally been given to us after almost a month of procrastination.”

“The decision is not a surprise for us given how the French authorities have conducted this case file from the beginning, both in substance and in form.

“We will now go to the Administrative Court.”

The player himself was gutted to find himself in such a perturbed situation, voicing his frustration at FIFA.

“I do not understand why they would try to stop me from playing in France, my home.”

“Why always try to create problems where there are none?”

“I have only one desire – to play again on the pitches of Ligue 1, to have fun with my team-mates, and to give pleasure to the fans who have welcomed me as ever,” the former Marseille winger said.
