Rafa Benitez has reportedly asked Perez to free up funds for a stunning transfer involving the Chelsea star, Cesc Fabregas. Benitez is reportedly keen on adding midfield bodies into the squad after being handed a lopsided squad by the President of the club, Perez.
With no real midfielders except Kroos, Modric and Casemiro along with unnecessary acquisitions like Mateo Kovacic, Benitez has been struggling to impose his style of play at the Madrid club.
Benitez always favours to be in control and hence is always at odds with the “club policy” of playing as much of an attacking form of football as possible. With a squad filled with wingers and number 10’s it is obvious that there will be defensive weaknesses which have been exposed by opponents time and again over this season.
Most importantly, with no proper deep playmakers except Modric, the rhythm of the game isn’t being controlled by Real.
Casemiro, who is adept at breaking up opponent play is often found wanting with his passes but in fact, expecting that much from such a young player who still manages to somehow provide some control in midfield for Los Blancos is wrong and he needs a proper playmaker in the form of Cesc to help convert his skills into proper transitional play.
Cesc has been an avid supporter of Mourinho ever since he joined the club and with his sacking and the subsequent jeers from Chelsea supporters, it is said that the Spanish playmaker could be ready to leave the English shores back to the Spanish ones.
He was twice a Barcelona player in his career though and that could be a major spanner in the works for Benitez, who already isn’t really a fan favourite as well as Cesc, who could ruin his relationships with his childhood club with this move.
