The 2013-14 season was not even close to what the club and its supporters dreamt of. They finished the season without a trophy and the manager was slowly being blamed for the draught. Luiz Enrique made some smart purchases and made sure his team was strong going into the 2014-15 season. The front three of Messi, Neymar and Suarez who joined them a bit late sent chills through many spines.
So with the new season around the corner, lets go back to the last season and take a look at the best and worst moments that the club and its fans faced.
Highs
Barcelona were the most successful team last season in Europe. They won the Champions League, La Liga and the Copa Del Rey on their way to completing the treble. The best moment for the club would have been the game against Juventus where they beat them to lift the most prestigious cup in Europe. They won the La Liga with a few games to spare and beat Bilbao in the cup final to finish the treble. This would have been the greatest moment for the fans and players alike in the last season.
Apart from these victories, Barcelona beat Bayern Munich in the first leg of the semi final with a score line of 3-0 at home. They beat PSG with an aggregate of 5-1. They also beat Real Madrid in the home leg of the El Classico. Their best performance was the 8-0 victory against Cordoba away from home. They beat Getafe 6-0 and Rayo Vallecano 6-1 in other games that they were at their best.
The season as a whole was one to remember for the fans as the front three set a record of 120 goals between them in all competitions.
Lows
For a treble winning team, not many games were disappointing in the last season. The hardest result to swallow for the fans would be the 3-1 loss to Real Madrid at the Bernabeau in the away leg of the Classico. They were beaten completely on the day and this will have dented their confidence in the middle of the season.
They lost to Celta Vigo in the begging of the league and were then beaten by Real Sociedad in a close game. They also lost to Malaga in the latter half of the season and were also beaten by Bayern Munchen in the 2nd leg of the semi final of the Champions League. Thankfully they went through to the final on aggregate and went on to lift the cup.
The fans would love their club to repeat the performance in the new season. But the level and intensity shown by the players will be hard to replicate. This is why Luiz Enrique has his work cut out. He has to not only keep the level of performance high but also try to better their last season’s results, which is a bit impossible.
