Big Blow: Italian Giants Claim Liverpool’s Potential £26.5 m Midfielder Deal False Rumours

Roma chief Mauro Baldissoni has dismissed speculation about Leandro Paredes after reports the club had received an offer from Liverpool.

Liverpool were believed to have launched a £26.5 m bid for the midfielder as they look to make their only January signing a statement buy.

But Baldissoni insisted there has been no approach by Liverpool and said Roma would not comment on any transfers.

“I reply the way I do every time, that we do not comment on rumours,” Baldissoni told Mediaset Premium when asked about Paredes.

“Fortunately there are only two days to go in the transfer window and we won’t have to deal with these questions anymore.

“We did not receive any formal offers for Paredes.

“We go forward along our path.”

Paredes operates as a holding midfielder, and would provide the much-maligned Reds back four with more protection than it is currently getting.

Liverpool’s dreadful run of form since the turn of the year has heightened speculation that the club may look to conduct some late business in the transfer market.

Roma were rumoured to have tied up a deal for Atalanta prospect Franck Kessie who has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

The midfielder is in high demand, but Baldissoni refused to confirm whether it was true they had a deal in place.

“Kessie? The same is true there,” said Baldissoni.

“We want to focus on the game. Every match is different and in the Coppa Italia Sampdoria showed they could be very dangerous, so we know it’s difficult.

“Roma have become more solid, also considering those who are unavailable.

“There is a really reliable system.”
