Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is facing growing unrest with some of his players as it has been revealed by an insider that some of the united players were not at all happy that they had been thrown in for the Feyenoord game. The Portuguese has to find a way to contain the unrest before it spreads to the whole squad.
Mourinho has a habit of having unrest in his squads, most famously in his last Chelsea stint where some players were unhappy with his treatment of Eva Carneiro, also falling out with Mario Balotelli at Inter Milan along with Iker Casillas at Real Madrid.
Mourinho commented on the performance of his players against Feyenoord saying “I always expect maximum ambition and focus no matter the opponent. I changed eight players, but I played with a good team, with enough good players to win the match.
“Of course, I’m unhappy – especially because I think we lost the game precisely in the moment we don’t deserve to lose. We were double unlucky because it’s a clear offside.”
Mourinho’s boys have suffered a bad week with defeat at home to their city rivals before going down to a 1-0 defeat against Feyenoord in Rotterdam on Thursday.
United will be looking to get back on track against the Hornets in the midday kick-off on Sunday.
Watford have four points on the board from their opening four games including a stirring comeback from 2-0 down to beat West Ham 4-2 in their last league outing.
United’s visit is the latest in a run of tough fixtures at Vicarage Road where Walter Mazzarri’s side have already lost to Premier League big boys Chelsea and Arsenal.
Wayne Rooney, Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw all are expected to return to Mourinho’s matchday squad.
The trio was rested for Thursday’s Europa League tie at Feyenoord, with the latter not risked after complaining of a tight hamstring following the derby defeat to Manchester City.
Centre-back Eric Bailly will be assessed after receiving a knock during the midweek loss in Holland, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan (thigh) is set to join Phil Jones (knee) on the sidelines.
Ahead of the match, two contrasting stats should be kept in mind.
United’s last league defeat against Watford came in September 1986, two months before Sir Alex Ferguson was appointed manager of the club.
But the Red Devils haven’t won three consecutive Premier League away games since a run of four ended in April 2014, under David Moyes’ management.
