Blow For Chelsea As Barcelona Emerge As Favorites To Sign Top Summer Transfer-Target 1

Antonio Conte’s maiden stint in the Premier League is going according to the plan as his Chelsea side are currently at the top of the league table, 8 points off Arsenal in the 1st place.

The manager will know that his side will have to continue to perform well until the end of the season to have a genuine shot at the title and he will hope that his squad can keep up with the pace of the league.

Though the players have been up to the task so far this season, it has been evident that the manager is unhappy with the options at his disposal and he has been looking into the transfer window for additions to the squad.

The January transfer window does not really give teams a chance to lure top quality stars out of their clubs but Chelsea was eyeing a move for Chile international Arturo Vidal this month.

The 29-year old is a mainstay in the Bayern Munich side in Germany and is one of the most influential players in his position in Europe.

He established himself in this position in his stint in Italy with Juventus under the current Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and reports earlier this month suggested that the Italian manager is keen on a reunion with the midfielder in the Premier League.

Conte was reportedly confident of landing him before the deadline day but his transfer plans have now been dealt a blow.

A story from Spanish media outlet Don Balon, has suggested that the 29-year old is not ready to make a move this month and that Chelsea might not be able to land him even at the end of the season.

According to the story, Vidal is high up the wish-list for Spanish giants Barcelona in the summer.

The La Liga champions have not been at their best this season and are expected to spend big in the summer to improve their squad.

Manager Luis Enrique is also expected to replaced with current Chile national team coach Jorge Sampaoli and it is understood that the Chilean manager is desperate to start his stint in the La Liga with his national compatriot Vidal in his midfield.

Bayern Munich are expected to cash in on the midfielder to give Renato Sanchez a chance to break into the first team and at the moment, Barcelona are winning the race for his signature.

It will be interesting to see if Antonio Conte has a move up his sleeve for the Chilean. Do you think Arturo Vidal is a good addition for Chelsea?
