The Champions of Europe, Real Madrid are having a super season in Spain at the moment and they are also well placed in the Champions League to try and achieve the feat of retaining the title, something that has never been done before.
Though they are knocked out of the Copa del Rey already, Zinedine Zidane will be relatively happy with the way his team have performed in recent games.
The Spanish giants were hit but a transfer ban that has stopped them from adding a player to their squad in the last two transfer windows but Zidane will get his chance to go shopping this summer when the ban is lifted.
So it does not come as a surprise that the French manager is desperate to add some quality to his squad in the off-season.
This has seen him linked with a number of star players for a move in the summer and one such names that is constantly doing the rounds is Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Borussia Dortmund star is among the most prolific goal scorers in Europe at the moment and Zidane wants him to replace French star Karim Benzema in the first team at the Bernabeu.
Benzema, who is among the top goal scorers in the history of the Spanish outfit has been terribly out of form this season and is yet to score a league goal since October last year.
And Real want to sell him, with a couple of Premier League clubs interested and want to sign Aubameyang for the next season.
However, reports from Spanish news outfit Diario Gol has now revealed that Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has now come to Benzema’s defense and has asked the club not to sell him at the end of the season.
Benzema found the back of the net in Real’s Champions League victory over Napoli recently and it is now understood that Ronaldo wants Real Madrid to stick with the Frenchman for another season.
The report also suggests that Zidane is not really keen on making a change in the summer but the president Florentino Perez has other ideas.
He is determined to get the Gabon hitman to Real next season and might end up getting his wish fulfilled if Benzema does not find some form from now to the end of the season.
Real are also looking at Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Juventus’ Paulo Dybala as possible replacements for Benzema but do you think Real Madrid should sell the 29-year old this summer?
