Sergio Ramos has finally put an end to his transfer saga as he pens down a five-year deal with La Liga giants Real Madrid. The transfer of Ramos to Manchester United was one of the hottest topics in the transfer market this summer as it was reported that the defender was not ready to sign a contract extension over a wage dispute.
Real Madrid were adamant not to let go one of their star players to Manchester United and tried to convince the player. After club captain Iker Casillas had left the club last month for FC Porto, Sergio Ramos was the automatic choice as a successor for Iker Casillas at the club. Making him the club captain was huge hint that Ramos would stay at the club.
Today Spanish media claims that Ramos will be signing five-year contract which would see Ramos earn close to €10m per year after tax and remain at the club until 2020, when he will be 34 years of age.
Sergio Ramos had joined the club back in 2005 for transfer fee of €27 million from Sevilla. Since then he had won thrice La Liga, twice Copa del Ray and a UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United were heavily linked with Spanish superstar as the club lacked a proper center back. Ramos’ decision would come as a huge jolt for the Premier League club as they still have not found a good defender.
Sergio Ramos and the club will announce the deal in a big event at the Bernabeu on Monday, which will be similar to the one organised to celebrate Cristiano Ronaldo’s renewal back in September 2013.
