Boost For Liverpool As Steven Gerrard Is Officially Back At Anfield!

The 2016-17 season has been friendly for Liverpool fans as their side are within touching distance of the Premier League title and are also going strong in the domestic cup competitions.

They have lost just two games in the league so far this season but the season seems to have just gotten better after the club announced some exciting news for Liverpool fans today.

The Anfield outfit is now ready to welcome one of the greatest players of the sport in Steven Gerrard in a weeks time.

According to reports, Steven Gerrard, the Champions League-winning captain for Liverpool has now agreed to move back to the club in a coaching role and is set to start his career as a coach for the academy for Liverpool.

The ‘born and bred’s Scouser was always expected to be back at the club in some post and he has not accepted the role of a coach at the Kirkby today.

He is expected to act as a deputy to the youth director Alex Inglethrope and expected to take charge in the first week of the next month.

Gerrard, who helped Liverpool to some memorable victories over the years left the club before the start of the previous season after he was not handed a contract extension at Anfield.

He joined MLS outfit LA Galaxy but failed to land any silverware for his side in the two seasons he was at the club.

However, he announced his retirement from football as player late last year and is now set to be back in his hometown next month.

He was ready for a coaching role already but rejected an offer from MK Dons earlier this year.

However, he revealed that he is thrilled to back at Anfield and that he is looking forward to his new role at the club.

Speaking to the media after the appointment, Gerrard said, “It feels like completing the circle; returning to the place where professionally it all began,” said Gerrard. However, this isn’t a decision based on emotion – it’s about what I can offer and contribute to Liverpool.

“Meeting with Alex Inglethorpe, seeing the work they are currently doing and want to do in the future at Kirkby, it just felt right. The right option at the right time, for all parties involved. This gives me a great opportunity to learn and develop as a coach, while at the same time offering my knowledge, ideas, and experience to the young players at an important period of their development.”

Gerrard will be in position to sound out one of his mentors, Steve Heighway, as he coaches the next generation of footballers at the club. He will have a roaming role focused across the age groups and will get a more precise role at the end of the current season.

Liverpool’s Academy Director Inglethorpe also spoke about his excitement over working with Gerrard.

He said, “If I was to pick one individual who embodies the characteristics and values we are looking to instill into our organization at Kirkby it would be Steven Gerrard,” said Inglethorpe.

“For him to have been so enthusiastic about being part of what we are looking to do is simply great news for everyone connected to the club,” he added.

It is understood that Gerrard will still be able to continue his role as a television pundit for BT Sport giving Liverpool fans plenty of chances to relive the memories.

Do you think Gerrard will be a successful coach for Liverpool?
